Tips for Your Wedding Photography Timeline
Before crafting your wedding day timeline, there are a few things to keep in mind about the flow of your wedding day. You’ll want to think about your time and how you want to spend that on your day. Some of these may take a minute or so to think about, no pressure bride-to-be. So here are a few of our expert tips as we plan our wedding day photography timelines with our beautiful wedding couples.
Details
To keep the morning flowing on schedule and on time, we’ll want to begin with photographing your beautiful wedding day details. To do just that, we recommend setting aside your details in one single location. Details may include your invitation suite, wedding bands, vow book, shoes, and more. As soon as Michelle arrives, she begins photographing those thoughtfully curated items as you are in hair and makeup. Pro tip: notify your maid/matron of honor the location of these items so we can snag those for photos as you enjoy your time in hair and makeup!

Consider a First Look
Nerves may be running a bit high in the morning. This is one of the best days of your lives and if you’re hosting a traditional timeline, more than half the day will be spent in different locations. If you nor your partner are opposed to completing a first look on your wedding day, then you’ll want to consider it! First looks are when you are taking your formal portraits prior to your ceremony so instead of missing your cocktail hour you get to enjoy that time and will essentially add more time to your wedding day that you get to enjoy, together! From a photographer’s perspective, the first looks provide plenty of logistical benefits from to your timeline. Yet our favorite bonus of hosting a first look for our couple’s are the intimate moments, vow readings, and portrait time that our couples share before the busyness of the day. It’s truly a moment just for you two to enjoy on your day which is extra-special.

Consider an Extended Cocktail Hour
If keeping it traditional is more your thing-we got you! I would recommend the extended cocktail hour. Extending your cocktail will allow for a few moments at your cocktail hour mixing, mingling and celebrating at the very beginning of your post-ceremony party. The best of both worlds!

Buffer in Timeline
When planning the timeline, I recommend to factor in ‘buffer time.’ This time is great to take a moment prior to your ceremony. This buffer can be used to relax and recharge before your big moment to come. If anything happens to run behind in the schedule, then we know there is a safety buffer time. We’ll still have time to recharge the batteries before departing ceremony time!

Formal Portraits

Prior to the wedding, it is important to notify family that they will be photographed and what time. On the wedding day, to make this process as efficient as possible, I recommend notifying family members what time and where. Same applies to wedding party.

We absolutely love this couples attention to detail. We love that little pop of sparkle on the Manolo Blahniks. How stunning. How handsome are the gentleman in their tuxedos by The Black Tux? Wow, we love their floral boots by Thistle Bee Florist! We also love the incredible floral arrangements and installations by Thistle Bee Florist. Absolutely incredible! Her attention to detail is masterful.
Eva’s glow and glam by the talented artists at Airbrushed by Alyssa Renee and Lounge Hair Studio Denville & Hair By Andrea Perry was incredible. Her glow was picture-perfect throughout the 11pm! Wow, ladies bravo! Wow! And the evening, DJ Urb of Posh DJs slayed the dance floor. What an epic party! What a pleasure to be a part of such a stellar team. Kara and Michael’s heartfelt summer wedding was set at the Hayloft Cottage at the Coach House at the Ryland Inn, Whitehouse Station. Their wedding day includes a day enjoyed with their best friends and family by their side, and moments captured showcasing their genuine, heartfelt love for one another, captured at the Coach House at Ryland Inn in Whitehouse Station by Ryland Inn NJ Wedding Photographer, Michelle Behre.
The Couple
Kara and Michael met through mutual friends just a few years prior to their wedding. Michael is passionate about his family, friends, his adorable dog, Remi, traveling and hunting. Kara is also passionate about traveling, sharing time with her family, friends, her community volunteer travel missions, and she is passionate about soccer!
The Proposal & Engagement
Head over heals in love, Michael proposed in a romantic setting and one of Kara’s favorite places: the ocean. Overlooking the Atlantic, Michael got down at one knee at West Point Light in Seattle, Washington and asked to share the rest of his life with the one he loves most.
Fast-forward to 2019 and this couple reached out to me in regards to photographing their wedding and of course, I said yes! I was absolutely thrilled and honored to photograph a wedding for a dear friend and so thrilled for their next journey in life together. We immediately began planning their engagement session and I knew the absolutely perfect venue that would accent their personalities and upcoming wedding venue for their Save the Date card!
Kara and Michael’s Wedding Day at the Coach House at the Ryland Inn
Their wedding was set at the Coach House at the Ryland Inn on a beautiful July day. Kara and Michael designed a warm, relaxing wedding for their family and friends to rekindle, relax, and enjoy after a difficult year of separation.
From the couple
“We have waited a long time for this moment. I think what excites us the most is finally being able to say we are husband and wife as well as finally being able to have a big celebration with our families.”
Their Day
The couple’s aesthetic included a romantic, organic, and natural feeling. The couple’s color palette included colors were of navy blue, cornflower blue, white, green, and gold.
Kara and Michael fell in love with the Ryland Inn’s Coach House.
While walking onto the property, they adored the elegant country setting of rolling grass, colorful gardens, and the hall set in a historic, restored barn. Prep
Bridal prep took place at the hayloft cottage on site just a few steps from the ceremony and reception. Kara stepped into her absolutely breathtaking and detailed Martina Liana of Essense of Australia bridal gown from Seng Couture.
Her hair was completed in a soft, beautiful, natural updo by dear friend, Alexa DiNapoli of Studio DiNapoli and her natural, soft, beautiful beauty completed by Kristin Luciano of House of Luciano.
In love with how beautiful the Amelia by Bella Belle Shoes accents the Swarovski Crystal Lace on her bridal gown. Absolutely gorgeous!
Bridals
Kara is absolutely glowing. Moments prior to seeing the love of her life on their wedding day we photographed a few bridals.
First Look
My favorite part of their wedding was their first look. What a heartfelt, genuine first look. Tears shed, a few laughs, and pure wedding bliss.
Wedding Party
Moments after the couple’s first look the wedding party portraits were captured.

Reception Ballroom
One of my favorite details of Kara and Michael’s special day was the abundance of candlelight. This added to the romantic ambience of their reception and the Coach Houses’ space is truly absolutely breathtaking.
Every detail is absolutely breathtaking and the light in the space made for a beautiful sunset lit first dance. How romantic!
Michael asked Kara to share a first dance together as husband and wife.
These are just a few of my favorite moments captured of their first dance together as the sun set in the background and with family and friends by their side the entire step of the way.
This couple enjoyed an evening of dancing and entertainment by SCE Music Group’s MC Christian LaGrotteria, a delicious three course meal by Landmark Caterers, and an absolutely scrumptious and creative dessert by La Bon Bakery.
MC Christian closed the evening with Michael’s favorite, Country Roads!
What an honor to watch a great friend, Kara marry the love of her life. To be chosen to capture these moments for life for her, well, that’s priceless! What an honor! I am thrilled for this couple and their future!
