There is a mood that I return to again and again — a feeling I chase across every session, every season, every location. Sun-warmed stone. The smell of salt air and something blooming. The quality of light in late afternoon that makes everything it touches look like it was painted by hand. Golden, abundant, effortless. It is the mood of an Amalfi summer, and it is absolutely achievable right here in New Jersey and New York.
This is the energy I have been pouring into my summer sessions this year — and I could not be more obsessed with the results.
When I say “Amalfi-inspired,” I am not suggesting we need to be on the Amalfi Coast (though if you are interested in a destination session, let us absolutely talk). What I am describing is a feeling: the warmth, the romance, the slow luxury of a long Italian summer afternoon. Images that look like they were pulled from the pages of a fashion editorial — sun-drenched and effortless, with a richness of color and texture that feels completely alive.
Practically speaking, this translates to: golden hour light (mandatory), warm and tactile fabrics (silk, linen, cotton gauze), locations with interesting architecture or natural texture, and an unhurried pace that allows moments to unfold organically. The New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York landscapes offer this in abundance — you just need to know where to look.
There are a few venues in New Jersey that can accomplish this vision. Longwood Gardens to Skylands Manor at the NJ Botanical Garden, Frelinghuysen Arboretum, and The Longwood Gardens is endlessly inspiring for this kind of session. The textures of the vintage architecture, estate mansions, the murals, the abundance of pristinely manicured gardens — at golden hour, these properties looks positively cinematic. I have stood on that locations as the sky turned every shade of rose and amber and thought, sincerely: this is Italy.
For couples who prefer a more lush, verdant setting, the private estates and gardens of northern New Jersey — think sprawling greenery, rolling hills, stone walls draped in wisteria — offer that Italian countryside quality that I find completely irresistible. And for something more urban, the cobblestone streets and sun-drenched facades of New York’s lower neighborhoods bring an Old World European charm that I absolutely love.
This is where I get genuinely excited. For this particular aesthetic, I love: flowing slip dresses in warm whites, creams, and terracotta. Linen blazers and tailored trousers for him. Sandals. Effortless hair — softly tousled or loosely pinned. Minimal, warm jewelry. Nothing stiff, nothing too polished. The goal is to look like you just wandered off a beautiful terrace somewhere in Positano.
The fabric choice is everything. Silk and chiffon catch the golden hour light in the most extraordinary way — they shimmer and move and create a softness in the image that no other fabric can replicate.
This summer’s sessions have been some of the most beautiful work I have ever produced, and I say that with genuine excitement. When the light is right and the couple is fully present and the location has that layered, textured quality — something extraordinary happens behind the lens.
I am currently booking a limited number of summer engagement sessions for 2026 and 2027. If you are dreaming of images that feel like a beautiful, sun-soaked Italian afternoon — images that will live on your walls and in your albums for generations — I would absolutely love to connect.
Inquire here to check my availability. Fall 2026 is booking quickly, and I want to make sure I can create something truly iconic for you.

A season as fleeting and full as an engagement deserves to be documented with the same care and intention you are pouring into every detail of what comes next. These are the in-between days — the ones before the vows, before the flowers, before the first dance — and they are some of the most quietly beautiful of your entire love story. Do not let them pass without something to hold onto.
At Michelle Behre Photography, we specialize in capturing this chapter in a way that feels completely natural, refined, and true to who you are as a couple — never staged, only beautifully preserved. From guiding you through location and styling to moving through your session with a quiet, unhurried presence that lets real moments breathe, every part of the experience is curated with deep intention. What you walk away with is not just a gallery of images — it is the first chapter of a bespoke heirloom that will live in your home, in your albums, and in your family for generations.
If you are dreaming of an engagement session that is as effortless as it is extraordinary — images that stop the scroll and make you feel something every time you look at them — we would be truly honored to be part of your story. Inquire within for further details on availability.

Amy and Nick’s romantic and elevated Philadelphia engagement session was set at the picture-perfect Ritz-Carlton Philadelphia hotel on South Broad Street. During our session, we explored every inch of the Ritz. From their stunning views, Broad Street, to enjoying a few sips of champagne at the lobby bar. It doesn’t get any better!
In the heart of the city, the Ritz-Carlton is the absolute picture-perfect location for the classic and elevated Philadelphia engagement session. This location has an abundance of picturesque backgrounds all within a short walking distance. With the College of Physicians, PAFA, South Broad Street, and Philadelphia City Hall, you have an abundance of perfect backdrops for your picture-perfect Philadelphia engagement session. Even better, the couple is celebrating their very special wedding day in this very city. So celebrating their engagement session here at the Ritz-Carlton was absolutely perfect! What an epic way to kick-off the wedding festivities! So perfect!
During this very special session Amy and Nick gave me their very own personal tour of The Ritz-Carlton Philadelphia. We explored the halls overlooking the grand lobby, and of course hopped outside to take a peak at Broad Street during the hustle-bustle of the morning commute.
It started pouring a bit during our walk in front of the Union League Philadelphia so we made our way indoors to enjoy a glass of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin champagne at the lobby bar before our outfit change. Headed up to the suite, we made a few pit-stops for a few kisses at the elevator. Styled beautifully, this couple embodies all things chic fashion. The bride-to-be in Jimmy Choos, isn’t she glowing! I cannot wait for their Water Works by Cescaphe Philadelphia wedding this upcoming September wedding season!

So in love with Liz and Jimmy’s classic, timeless, and elegant fall wedding at hosted at The Logan in the heart of Philadelphia! This couple have been head over heels in love with one another since they were children. Seriously, how adorable! They incorporated their heartfelt, genuine love for another in their day as their best friends, family celebrating by their sides. Can’t you feel the joy just as much as they do in their portraits at this stunning wedding at The Logan Hotel!? We sure can! Congratulations to this couple on their nuptials and all the future holds for them!
Liz and Jimmy hosted a lux, black-tie wedding at The Logan Philadelphia. The Logan is an exquisite hotel in the heart of Logan Square Philadelphia. The Logan overlooks Philadelphia’s exquisite and historic Logan Square. With vistas for miles, The Logan sits right above Philadelphia’s historic Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, and the luxurious Free Library of Philadelphia.
This couple celebrated their nuptials with family and friends by their side on a gorgeous fall day. Their ceremony was hosted at the Christ the Catholic Church with a heartfelt Roman Catholic ceremony. Guests were introduced to their day with beautiful florals arrangements decorating the chapel doors. Moments following their ceremony, the couple exited with family, friends, and guests by their side for a grand bubble exit and portrait!
Moments following their ceremony, the couple traveled to several elegant Philadelphia locations for their portraits. A few of my favorite portraits from their day include Liz and Jimmy and their wedding party at the beautiful Rodin Museum! Check them out below!
