Throughout the evening, Liz and Matt embraced the energy of the city while remaining completely immersed in one another. One of the most beautiful aspects of engagement sessions in New York City is the blend of romance and motion happening simultaneously around you. There’s something truly unforgettable about engagement sessions in New York City. Brian and Kelsey’s session began in lush greenery at Central Park and finished with refined sophistication around the Union League Club New York and The Plaza Hotel. From intimate moments at Bethesda Terrace and Bow Bridge, beneath beneath the twinkling lights of the city, to elegant portraits on classic stone terraces, every frame shares a moment that NYC engagement photographers captured with intention.
Why New York? A Backdrop Like No Other
Central Park provides timeless natural beauty — wide open lawns, shaded pathways, and classic architectural details make it a dream location for engagement photos. For couples who love the city’s blend of nature and style, there’s no better setting. We timed the session around the golden hour to ensure that soft, glowing light wrapped the entire experience.
As the afternoon transitioned, we moved the session to the Union League Club and around the Plaza Hotel. These environments offered a luxury aesthetic — formal stone details, elegant interiors, and the perfect balance of city energy and refined charm to compliment their day beautifully.
Wardrobe, Details, and Personal Moments
Brian chose a tailored suit that echoed the sophistication of Union League Club, while Kelsey’s flowing gown danced in the park breeze and framed her silhouette against soft sunlight. Their candid laughter — shared whispers, gentle embraces, and spontaneous moments fit with a pair of martinis and an abundance of laughter throughout the hallways of the Union League Club — are what make these images feel timeless, refined, and editorial.

As a wedding photographer, it is upmost important to make that engagement session so special to your and your fiancé. We could spend all day recommend beautiful venues, yet if it does speak to you and your love story, unless you’re up for making new memories together! So while curating your engagement session it’s important to communicate how you’d like to share your love story and commemorate this chapter.

Plan Your Session Aesthetic and Vibe
While working beside New York and New Jersey bridal clients, it is always my goal and best intention to design a romantic engagement session that best compliments the clients wedding and provides a great introduction to the wedding day. Engagement session photographs will be printed and utilized for Save the Dates, your wedding website, and your wedding day guestbook. With that being said and while planning your session and all session details, you want to think about the vision of your day and creating that chic, scroll-stopping and romantic engagement session for you and your fiancé. Wedding Photographers, Michelle Behre will guide you through each step of the planning process. Stumped on where to begin? Inquire today to learn more!
Execute That Aesthetic
Styling is key while coming to sessions. It is essential to first create a ‘vision board’ together and once you have a vision finalized, then move forward with nailing down the epic details for creating an aesthetically pleasing session.
Book Your Venue(s)
Once your engagement session vision is accomplished, execute on the first big step, choosing your dream engagement session venue! Whether this be at a (what may seem like) a public location or private, it’s always best to inquire with the venue and while photograph at their property to see if a permit fee is required to photograph at their property for the time planned. If a permit fee is required, applications are required to be completed 4-6 month(s) prior to the session. You wouldn’t want to show up to your session and be asked to leave, righttt? Thorough planning is key for a very successful session!
Outsource the Talent & Book Vendor Team(s)
If your vision includes talent such as outfit changes and accessories, which may include on-location styling, hair, makeup, furniture rentals (example: champagne tower and glasses), vehicles (antique vehicles), or furniture, it would be ideal to then inquire with vendors one at a time and book your vendors for your session.
Invite a Friend to Care for your Fur Baby
If you are planning on bringing a fur baby, I recommend to request for your Mom, maid-of-honor (or bestie) to tag along and please care for your pup if you plan on incorporating your fur baby!
