There is a mood that I return to again and again — a feeling I chase across every session, every season, every location. Sun-warmed stone. The smell of salt air and something blooming. The quality of light in late afternoon that makes everything it touches look like it was painted by hand. Golden, abundant, effortless. It is the mood of an Amalfi summer, and it is absolutely achievable right here in New Jersey and New York.
This is the energy I have been pouring into my summer sessions this year — and I could not be more obsessed with the results.
When I say “Amalfi-inspired,” I am not suggesting we need to be on the Amalfi Coast (though if you are interested in a destination session, let us absolutely talk). What I am describing is a feeling: the warmth, the romance, the slow luxury of a long Italian summer afternoon. Images that look like they were pulled from the pages of a fashion editorial — sun-drenched and effortless, with a richness of color and texture that feels completely alive.
Practically speaking, this translates to: golden hour light (mandatory), warm and tactile fabrics (silk, linen, cotton gauze), locations with interesting architecture or natural texture, and an unhurried pace that allows moments to unfold organically. The New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York landscapes offer this in abundance — you just need to know where to look.
There are a few venues in New Jersey that can accomplish this vision. Longwood Gardens to Skylands Manor at the NJ Botanical Garden, Frelinghuysen Arboretum, and The Longwood Gardens is endlessly inspiring for this kind of session. The textures of the vintage architecture, estate mansions, the murals, the abundance of pristinely manicured gardens — at golden hour, these properties looks positively cinematic. I have stood on that locations as the sky turned every shade of rose and amber and thought, sincerely: this is Italy.
For couples who prefer a more lush, verdant setting, the private estates and gardens of northern New Jersey — think sprawling greenery, rolling hills, stone walls draped in wisteria — offer that Italian countryside quality that I find completely irresistible. And for something more urban, the cobblestone streets and sun-drenched facades of New York’s lower neighborhoods bring an Old World European charm that I absolutely love.
This is where I get genuinely excited. For this particular aesthetic, I love: flowing slip dresses in warm whites, creams, and terracotta. Linen blazers and tailored trousers for him. Sandals. Effortless hair — softly tousled or loosely pinned. Minimal, warm jewelry. Nothing stiff, nothing too polished. The goal is to look like you just wandered off a beautiful terrace somewhere in Positano.
The fabric choice is everything. Silk and chiffon catch the golden hour light in the most extraordinary way — they shimmer and move and create a softness in the image that no other fabric can replicate.
This summer’s sessions have been some of the most beautiful work I have ever produced, and I say that with genuine excitement. When the light is right and the couple is fully present and the location has that layered, textured quality — something extraordinary happens behind the lens.
I am currently booking a limited number of summer engagement sessions for 2026 and 2027. If you are dreaming of images that feel like a beautiful, sun-soaked Italian afternoon — images that will live on your walls and in your albums for generations — I would absolutely love to connect.

A season as fleeting and full as an engagement deserves to be documented with the same care and intention you are pouring into every detail of what comes next. These are the in-between days — the ones before the vows, before the flowers, before the first dance — and they are some of the most quietly beautiful of your entire love story. Do not let them pass without something to hold onto.
At Michelle Behre Photography, we specialize in capturing this chapter in a way that feels completely natural, refined, and true to who you are as a couple — never staged, only beautifully preserved. From guiding you through location and styling to moving through your session with a quiet, unhurried presence that lets real moments breathe, every part of the experience is curated with deep intention. What you walk away with is not just a gallery of images — it is the first chapter of a bespoke heirloom that will live in your home, in your albums, and in your family for generations.
If you are dreaming of an engagement session that is as effortless as it is extraordinary — images that stop the scroll and make you feel something every time you look at them — we would be truly honored to be part of your story. Inquire within for further details on availability.

Spring at Frelinghuysen Arboretum is nothing short of timeless. With its blooming gardens, winding pathways, and elegant estate atmosphere, the arboretum created the perfect backdrop for Shannon and Liam’s romantic engagement session captured by Michelle Behre Photography. As New Jersey wedding photographers and videographers, we are always inspired by locations that feel effortlessly refined while allowing our couples’ connection to remain at the heart of every image.
From the moment Shannon and Liam stepped into the gardens together, their chemistry felt completely natural and genuine. Throughout the session, we focused on capturing movement, authentic laughter, quiet embraces, and the intimate in-between moments that truly tell the story of their relationship. The soft spring light filtering through the trees paired beautifully with the lush greenery and floral textures throughout the quintessential arboretum grounds, creating imagery that felt both romantic and editorial.
One of the most beautiful aspects of engagement sessions at Frelinghuysen Arboretum is the versatility of the landscape. From elegant garden pathways to charming architectural details, every corner offers a timeless setting that allows couples to feel immersed in the experience together. Shannon and Liam embraced every moment effortlessly, allowing us to document their love story in a way that felt organic, elevated, and true to them.
As New Jersey wedding photographers and videographers, engagement sessions are such an important part of the experience we create for our couples. They allow us to build connection and comfort together before the wedding day arrives, ensuring that when the celebration begins, every moment feels relaxed, intentional, and authentic in front of our lens.
We are so excited to continue documenting Shannon and Liam’s story this July at Ryland Inn with Landmark Weddings. Their upcoming summer wedding is sure to be filled with heartfelt moments, timeless design, and beautiful celebrations surrounded by family and friends. We cannot wait to capture every meaningful moment as their next chapter unfolds.
