Before the bouquet toss and the vows, there’s the first chapter—your engagement. It’s where your story begins, where we learn your rhythm, your laughter, and your glances. Your engagement session isn’t just a photoshoot. It’s the prelude to your wedding day artistry.

Why It’s Essential

Couples who schedule engagement sessions with us discover something unexpected: comfort. They learn how to move naturally and how to let emotion unfold without posing. They also discover what light flatters them most—knowledge that ensures their wedding photos shine.

You get comfortable in front of the camera before the big day. This makes formal portraits easier.

You begin to understand your photographer’s style: how we pose, how we catch light, and how we guide.

You walk away with beautiful images—save-the-dates, wedding website photos, and décor pieces.

Even better, you loosen up, laugh, and interact—and that translates to more natural wedding day photos.

Choosing the Perfect Location

Think early evening light in a park or urban rooftop around golden hour. In New Jersey or NYC, we love:

  • Historic districts (cobblestones + red brick façades)
  • Waterfront views (Manhattan skyline or Hudson River)
  • Countryside estates with sweeping lawns and natural light

Choose a place that resonates with you as a couple—your lifestyle, your connection, your story, and the vibe will reflect in your photos.

What to Wear

We always tell our couples: timeless over trendy.
Opt for soft fabrics, neutral palettes, and textures that move with you.

Choose two looks: one you feel comfortable in (casual) and one a little elevated (dress, blazer).

Coordination > matching. Try complementary tones rather than identical outfits.

Think about how the setting and your outfits flow together (e.g., airy dress in the morning light, textured jacket in a cityscape).

Bring accessories or props that reflect your lifestyle—a beloved pet, your favorite coffee mugs, your hometown stroll.

Engagement Sessions as Rehearsal

By your wedding day, you’ll already feel natural in front of the lens. You’ll know our cues, our rhythm, and how to lean into light. That’s when the magic happens: candid, real, cinematic.

Your engagement session is an investment—not just into photographs, but into your entire wedding-day experience. Book it early, plan it thoughtfully, and work with a photographer (like Michelle Behre Photography) who understands your story, your style, and how those portraits will live long after the wedding.
